There are a number of ways to talk about what most people call “addiction”. Those in the medical field say it’s about being “dependent”, usually on a substance but also a behavior. Within recovery circles, addiction is about denial, betrayal and acting out of a type of insanity. Those who have been touched by addiction and those who try to help will agree one thing at least. Whatever name we choose, it leaves a long trail of debris consisting of broken relationships that might have made it, lost childhoods, lost jobs, twisted families, wasted money, betrayed trust and grief, not only for the person who is using but for family and friends as well.
You may be asking, “Am I addicted – dependent – or whatever you call it?” There is a way to answer that question. If you or someone close to you is affected by addictive substances, pornography, gambling or other negative and repetitive behaviors, schedule a session and we can evaluate your situation.
